Welcome to Dromoland Castle

Our Castle is your Castle

Prepare to be welcomed like family, treated like royalty, and spoiled within an inch of your life.

Surrounded by five hundred acres of unspoiled parklands and woodlands, steeped in a thousand years of eventful history, and brimming with an irrepressible spirit of five-star delight, the 16th century Dromoland Castle is a self-contained world of lighthearted luxury.

But Dromoland’s true magic is something much more down-to-earth. It’s a real, living thing, rooted in the landscapes and local legends of County Clare.

You’ll encounter that magic when you meet the cast of characters who fill the Castle: the people and their personalities, the stories they tell and the songs they share. It’s the ease and laughter which banish all airs and graces and dispel any ghost of cold formality. It’s the warmth and wit and most of all, the welcome.

History and Heritage

The throne of Ireland’s last High King

Dromoland Castle was the ancestral home of the O’Briens, all the way back to Brian Boru himself, Ireland’s most powerful High King. In the millennium between his time and ours, it has been the backdrop to grand romances, exciting dramas, and unforgettable events in Ireland’s history. Over the centuries, it has played host to legends and luminaries, sinners and saints, barons and Beatles and just about everybody in between. Now it’s your turn.

During a stay at Dromoland Castle make sure and join the Castle Historian, Jane O Brien (yes, O Brien!) on a Living History Tour to learn all about the Castle in years gone by.

Estate Activities
